What is she doing right?

Published by Joan Rudder-Ward at 2:00 am under Tuesday's Nurture Nuggets

There are stages, as children go through adolescence, where it seems there are so many things that can irk you as a parent: unkept rooms, questionable choices in friends, forgetting to do chores, clothing choices, _____________ (fill in the blank).  And it can be frustrating as you find yourself in a constant ‘correction mode.’  Stop a moment. Take a deep breath. Chill.  And find something that she’s doing right that you can compliment her on. I know–sometimes when you’re at your wit’s end with correcting the same thing over and over, you don’t even feel like recognizing something she is doing right and may  not even want to say something positive to her.  But do it anyway.  Noticing the little positive things actually shows her that you’re paying  attention to more than just what’s bugging you .
