Take 30 seconds and Make Eye Contact

Published by Joan Rudder-Ward at 6:49 am under Tuesday's Nurture Nuggets

Your daughter has a question for you. You’re sitting at the computer updating your Facebook status or  you’re in the midst of cooking,  and because you’re such a great multi-tasker, you don’t even have to take your attention from what you’re doing– you answer without missing a beat. Not a problem for many women who are multi-tasking masters. However this ability to do a lot at once can form the  habit of not really engaging, or giving  full attention, to those in  our homes. We get used to on-the-run type conversations as every family member is going about their ways.

Take note of how often you actually stop and make eye contact. Make yourself take at least 30 seconds to give undivided attention to your daughter  when she speaks to you. When you actually stop, and take the the time, it helps her to feel that you are really listening, and that you consider what she has to say  important.
